5 kitcheny things I've learned lately
5. When you leave the baking soda out of a lovely gingerbread recipe it ends up being the consistency of a weird gingerbread flavored pound cake. Dense and gingerbreadly-intense. Also, it takes longer to bake.
4. 30 pounds of granulated sugar fills up a 5 gallon bucket quite nicely (good thing it all fit, because I don't know where we would have kept any extra in our teensy tiny little kitchen).
3. Most recipes have components that can be laid out ahead of time. With our little man demanding lots of my attention, I find it easier to chop vegetables, measure out dry ingredients, and even stage the cookware I will need on top of the stove throughout the day when I get a few moments instead of crossing my fingers that the little man will give me enough time to make dinner from start to finish. Ha ha ha.
2. My mom's favorite trick of setting a 10 minute timer for kitchen cleanup is (for me) the most effective way to beat the I-don't-want-to-clean-up-right-now bug.
1. Breakfast for dinner is my favorite go-to in a pinch (i.e., when no. 3 does not happen). In fact, I would posit that breakfast food is even more delicious for dinner than it is for breakfast! Strangely enough, I also have the same ideas about dinner food for breakfast.

2 month check-in
At two months, our little man is in the 10th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for length.
He weighs 9 pounds, 11 ounces. Long and skinny!
He weighs 9 pounds, 11 ounces. Long and skinny!
Here are ten things to know about our little guy:
He loves clocks, and likes to be held close to them so he can hear them tick.
He abhors being bathed and cries inconsolably the entire time.
He often manages to wet through his diaper, no matter how carefully I fasten it.
He occasionally raises one eyebrow.
He pops his pacifier out of the side of his mouth and chews on it like a cigar.
He is beginning to giggle in his sleep.
He kicks his little legs like the Lord of the Dance.
He cries when I cough.
He is wearing 3 month size pjs because he's too long for the smaller sizes.
He has grown into his foot size a bit more (he wears 6 month size socks.) 04 February 2012
