the prophet said to plant a garden

so that's what we'll do
for god has given us rich brown soil
 the rain and sunshine too
and if we plant the seeds just right
and tend them carefully
before we know good things will grow
 to feed our family

Dear Miss Spider

Dear Miss Spider;

I ignored your web whilst reaching for a tomato early this morning, because the out of doors is your home and you are likely helping to manage the insect population in my back yard.  That was before I saw you.

Then you scurried out from under your leaf.

Miss Spider, I have decided that you are so spectacular, you are welcome to have that entire tomato plant all to yourself.  I am certainly not going to be putting my hands anywhere near you or your web ever, ever again.

Very Respectfully,
Me

Top 5 reasons why I am planting a garden this year

5.  It would be tragic if farmers didn't have enough room to grow fodder for dairy cows. :)
4.  I need a hobby in a big way.
3.  I think composting is super cool.
2.  I can put away fresh tomatoes and basil like nobody's business
1.  I mostly just want to see if I can really do it.

...and they doubted!

The orchid blooms!

As the newbie in the legal department, I was given the impossible task of caring for the legal department orchid, which was, as Miracle Max would say, mostly dead. They told me it was useless, that it was a joke, that it was just a dried up old twig. They laughed, they lectured, and yet I persevered. After nearly six months of once weekly waterings and basking in the light of the window at the back of my cubicle, a flower stalk shot up at the beginning of April. I crossed my fingers. They raised their eyebrows. Now I shall lay the proof before them and they shall all be speechless (which seems much more impressive when you realize that the majority of them are attorneys).

All hail my green thumb!

tee hee hee.
